The Curriculum

A new statutory framework came into effect September 2021. The EYFS framework sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure children learn and develop well from birth to 5 years. If your child has attended nursery or a childminder they will have worked within the EYFS Framework. The reception year continues with the same framework. From Year 1, the National Curriculum is then followed.

The new framework aims to improve outcomes for children, particularly in the areas of language and literacy.

  • The Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA) is completed within the first 6weeks. This is a statutory assessment.
  • Throughout the year, the main focus is for the children to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding required to master the Early Learning Goals (ELGs)
  • There are assessment arrangements for measuring progress and reporting to parents/carers. In the autumn and spring terms you will be invited to attend parents evening. At the end of the academic year, a written report is provided.
  • The Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP) is completed at the end of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The Profile provides parents and carers, practitioners and teachers with a well rounded picture of a child’s knowledge, understanding and abilities, their attainment against expected levels, and their readiness for year 1.

There are seven areas of learning and development.

3 PRIME AREAS:

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

4 SPECIFIC AREAS:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design
