Welcome to Owl’s Class
Welcome to Owl’s Class, home to our wonderful Year 3 and Year 4 children at Dodford First School.
Our class teacher is Mrs Hughes, who works hard to create a happy, caring and inspiring classroom where every child feels valued and ready to learn.
Learning in Owl’s Class
In Owl’s Class, we believe that learning should be exciting, challenging and fun. Throughout the year, the children develop their knowledge and skills across the curriculum through a wide range of interesting topics, practical activities and creative learning opportunities.
As children move through Years 3 and 4, we encourage them to become increasingly independent, confident and curious learners. We celebrate effort and achievement and encourage everyone to have a go, ask questions and learn from their experiences.
Our Classroom
Owl’s Class is a friendly and supportive place where we look after one another and work together as a team. We encourage children to be kind, respectful and responsible, helping them to develop positive relationships and take pride in themselves, their work and our school community.
There is always plenty happening in Owl’s Class! From reading, writing and maths to science investigations, creative projects and learning beyond the classroom, we aim to give every child opportunities to discover new interests and enjoy their learning.
Working Together
We know that children thrive when school and home work together. We value the support of our families and look forward to sharing the children’s learning, achievements and special moments throughout the year.
Keep an eye on our Owl’s Class page for class news, photographs, useful information and updates about what we have been learning.
We are looking forward to a fantastic year of learning, growing and achieving together in Owl’s Class!

In Owls, we believe that everyone can be a reader and everyone can enjoy a good book! We love discovering new stories, meeting interesting characters and learning about the world through reading. We share books, recommend our favourites and make time to read for pleasure every day.
We know that feeling safe, calm and ready to learn helps everyone do their best. We use a range of tools and strategies, including mindfulness, breathing techniques, sensory resources, movement breaks, quiet time and emotion check-ins. We encourage children to recognise how they are feeling, understand what their body and mind might need, and develop the confidence to choose a helpful strategy.
In our class, we believe that using practical resources can help make learning clearer, meaningful and accessible to everyone. This is particularly important in Maths, where children are taught how to use concrete resources such as counters, place value equipment, number lines and manipulatives to explore ideas and deepen their understanding. Our aim is for every child to become a confident, resourceful and independent learner, knowing which tools can help them overcome a challenge.
