Starting Early Years

We are delighted to welcome you to the Dodford family. We look forward to supporting you and your child as they begin their journey with us.

Transition to School

In the lead-up to September, we invite all new Preschool and Reception families to a welcome evening at Dodford, where we share key information and provide welcome packs.

During June, children attend settling-in sessions to become familiar with the school environment.

First Day Information

Drop-off from: 8:40am 

Registration: 8.50am

Collection: 3:10pm

Children are dropped off and collected from the School House.

What to Bring

Please ensure your child comes to school each day with:

• A named school book bag (no large rucksacks)
• A named water bottle
• A named coat (whatever the weather)
• A complete change of clothes in a named bag

Food

All Reception children are entitled to a free school meal. These are freshly prepared each day at Dodford. Your child will choose their meal in class each morning. If your child prefers to bring a packed lunch, please provide a healthy, nut-free lunch in a named lunchbox.

A daily snack of fruit or vegetables is provided for all children.

PE & Outdoor Learning

Children at Dodford take part in regular PE and outdoor learning sessions.  Please send your child in with their PE kit in a named bag on the first day. This will stay on your child's peg and be sent home each half term.

Curriculum

At Dodford, children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, learning through a balance of adult-led teaching and play-based provision. We place a strong focus on language development, independence and well-being, and we follow the Little Wandle phonics programme to help children become confident early readers.
